Ugenya parliamentary aspirant and immediate former MP Chris Karan has once again, found himself in trouble, three months after the nullification of his election.
It now emerges that a criminal case is awaiting the politician immediately after the by-election after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji approved forgery charges against him.
In a gazette notice dated Friday, March 5, Haji approved Karan's prosecution for allegedly forging a letter he used during the hearing of the petition that resulted in his election nullification, reports the Nation.
Consequently, Haji has allowed the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) to press charges against him for allegedly using a fake hospital letter in the hearing.
The petition was filed by his predecessor, David Ochieng who refused to accept the 2017 election results, in a case that dragged its way through all judicial levels, before landing at the Supreme Court.
The two are once again battling it out for the seat, Karan on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket and Ochieng on his Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG).
Ochieng formed the party after falling out with ODM before 2017.
Also in the race is Daniel Juma of the Grand Dream Development Party (GDDP) among others.
