Police officers in Eldoret town on Monday arrested two directors from the Eldoret Packers Limited accused of selling expired foodstuffs.
The arrests were made by the Eldoret West OCPD Zacharia Bitok assisted by Uasin Gishu County quantity assurance officer Albert Cheruiyot.
According to Bitok, they received a tip-off from members of the public about unusual happenings at the factory located on the outskirts of Eldoret town and ambushed them.
"There is a huge consignment of products that have so far expired between 2011 and 2013. These include baking flour, rice, milking jelly among other products," said Bitok.
He further pointed out that the food handling process inside the company's factory is wanting as many are handled in an unhygienic environment.
On his part, the County quantity assurance officer said his department was also in a routine inspection of products when they discovered that lots of products were expired and being repackaged.
"The County team will sample all the products at the factory tomorrow and take them to the government chemist as well as the public health laboratories for further analysis," added Cheruiyot.
This comes barely a fortnight after Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago nabbed a lorry that was offloading huge quantities of expired fish at Action Estate along Eldoret-Iten road.
