Former Nakuru civic leaders will be receiving a monthly stipend as a pension package.
The move was announced by Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui on Sunday.
“I have already constituted a committee to work with the association of the former leaders in Nakuru County to fine tune a proposal of the more than 200 leaders legally entitled to a package of retirement benefits,” Kinyanjui said.
If tabled at the County assembly and approved, the governor will assent it into law and ensure the beneficiaries receive the stipend and a health cover.
The leaders have been lamenting over 'neglect' by the government.
The development shines a ray of hope to Njoroge Mwangi, a resident at the sleepy Makongo village in Gilgil sub-county.
