In a tweet on Tuesday, Khalwale said that the candidate Uhuru will endorse stands a chance of losing in the race to succeed him.

He noted that candidates who have received the backing of the incumbent have not been performing in past elections.

He cited the case of Former US President Barrack Obama who endorsed Hillary Clinton, Retired President Daniel Moi who endorsed Uhuru and retired President Mwai Kibaki who threw his weight behind Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi.

“In 2002, Moi endorsed Uhuru. Uhuru lost,  In 2013, Kibaki endorsed Mudavadi. Mudavadi lost, In 2016 Obama endorsed Hillary Clinton. She lost, Now @RailaOdinga, @skmusyoka, & @MusaliaMudavadi are fighting for Uhuru's endorsement for 2022!” he tweeted.

The ODM leadership has dismissed the claims.

In a statement released to media house, ODM dismissed claims that it sent ODM Chairman John Mbadi and Siaya Senator James Orengo to appeal to Uhuru to endorse Raila for the post.

The political outfit said that the claims are unfounded and ill-motivated by critics of the handshake between Uhuru and Raila.
