Kilifi County Governor Amason Kingi has asked the national government to provide security to politicians who exit offices for at least a period of two to five years.
Kingi made the statement during the burial of his former deputy, Kenneth Kamto who was killed by gunmen at his Nyali home on Jamhuri Day. Kamto was buried at his Bejana home, Rabai in Kilifi County.
He said Kamto's death should be investigated and perpetrators brought to book.
"The late Hon Kenneth Mwakombo Kamto was a devoted, respectful and accomplished leader who served the People of Kilifi and carried out his duties with excellence and unwavering commitment," said Kingi.

He noted Kamto showed resilience and humility- a paramount feature that won him respect and admiration from people of different ages and races.
The governor said the late would be remembered as a leader who enjoyed serving his people and improving the living standards by always rising to the occasion whenever he was needed not only by his family but also by the Rabai people and the Kilifi County Community at large.
"We wish to ask our security officers to speed up the investigations and those involved in his assassination be brought to book immediately," he said on Wednesday.
The two worked together through ODM party from 2013 general elections, before Kamto joined Jubilee and became Gideon Mung'aro's running mate in their quest to succeed Kingi in the 2017 general elections.
