Residents in Eldoret have been angered by the decision of the High Court to acquit Eric Musila, the key suspect in the brutal murder of Kalenjin songbird Diana Chemutai alias Chelele.

Musila, an administration police officer, was Chelele’s husband at the time of her murder in 2016.

Chelele was found murdered at her home in Bomet County, two days after she went missing.

“We no longer have confidence in the Kenyan judicial system. How can the prosecution with all of its resources fail to provide sufficient evidence linking the suspect to the murder? It is so painful for us since the cruel murder of one of our own will remain a mystery,” Faith Cherono a business lady at Kesses stated.

The residents further demanded the prosecution to produce the real killer of Chelele.

“We demand the prosecution to produce the real killer of Chelele now that they have failed to prove that Musila murdered her. Chelele was murdered in the most gruesome way. We also request our leaders to join us in demanding for justice to be served,” Edward Kipkorir a final year student at Moi University noted.

The residents are now appealing to political leaders to hear their cry and join them in demanding justice for the slain Kalenjin singer.

Musila was acquitted on grounds of insufficient evidence for him to stand a murder trial.
