Counties in North Eastern region are expected to receive rainfall this week starting from Friday as the much anticipated long rains are expected to start early April in several parts of the country.
The Kenya Meteorological Department said counties in North Eastern expected to receive rainfall include Garissa, Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir and Isiolo.
Department's acting director Stella Aura in a statement said counties in North Eastern will experience morning rains and afternoon showers over few places starting Friday, April 5.
Aura said the expected rains during the month of April will improve agricultural activities and improve pasture for livestock in North Eastern.
“Several parts of North Eastern Kenya, Western and Central are likely to experience near-average rainfall. The distribution, both in time and space is, however, likely to be poor,” reads part of the statement.
“Pastures for livestock are likely to improve in the pastoral areas on North Eastern Kenya where average rainfall is expected,” it added.
The weatherman, however, said some parts of the country will continue experiencing high temperatures with little rainfall in the afternoon in the next seven days.
“Counties of Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Laikipia, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma and Busia are likely to experience sunny intervals in the morning although afternoon/evening showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places,” she said.
Nairobi, Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Muranga, Kiambu, Meru, Embu and Tharaka will also experience afternoon/evening showers.
