Ruto is already battling a possible betrayal from leaders allied to President Uhuru Kenyatta's faction of the Jubilee Party, following warnings from the party Vice Chair David Murathe on Wednesday.

On Sunday, party Secretary General Raphael Tuju cautioned Ruto against expecting direct ticket in the race, hinting that he could have to undergo a nomination process.

"What stands is the lineup that he is Uhuru's deputy but there is no clause in our constitution saying that he will be given an automatic ticket," said the former Rarieda parliamentarian in an interview with Citizen TV.

He added that the same was the case in President Uhuru Kenyatta's case in the run up to the 2013 polls, saying that Ruto is not any special.

"The constitution says that, even Uhuru had to undergo a nomination before flying our flag," he added.

Speaking in Mbale, Vihiga County on Wednesday, Murathe said that Ruto is not guaranteed of the Jubilee support, hinting that the party could support a candidate from the region.

His remarks were echoed by former Mukurweini lawmaker Kabando Wa Kabando.

Consequently, Ruto's allies have come out guns blazing against the remarks, terming them a plan to scuttle Ruto's plans.
