Deputy President William Ruto's move to back up the constitutional referendum has elicited mixed reactions among local Kisii leaders.
Tabaka ward MCA Daniel Ombasa said Ruto took a bold step to support the referendum.
"Ruto won't be seen as an enemy now that he has supported the referendum. His rivals will have no option rather than going back to the drawing board to re-organize themselves since they thought DP Ruto won't be among the leaders pushing for the referendum," he stated in his ward on Saturday.
Ombasa who was elected on a Jubilee party ticket during the August 8, 2017 polls insisted that Ruto's presidency is unstoppable.
Steve Arika argued that Ruto's has hijacked his rivals' plans who have been attacking him alleging that he is opposed the referendum.
"Ruto is not the right track now. Let him help his boss, President Uhuru Kenyatta, to deliver his Big 4 Agenda while focused ahead of the 2022 polls," he said.
Rachael Otundo welcomed Ruto's bold step saying the referendum must be amended to reduce the wage bill.
"Ruto coming on board is a good sign that the constitutional referendum will sail through. Let every leader join in pushing the changing of the constitution," stated the vocal politician.
