Global Teachers’ prize winner Brother Peter Tabichi Mokaya will be received at Keriko Secondary School in Pwani Village Njoro Sub County Nakuru County this Saturday.
Students at the institution are optimistic that national and international leaders who are expected to visit their school will not only celebrate the victory of their teacher but also help in improving the infrastructural standards of the school as well as addressing understaffing.
“We hope the many guests coming here will not only come to celebrate the victory of our teacher but also help in improving the infrastructural standards of the school as well as addressing understaffing,” said one of the students.
Among the guests expected to be hosted by Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui at the institution are the nine nominees from overseas in the top ten global teachers’ finalists and the Cabinet Secretary for Education George Magoha among other leaders.
According to the chairperson of the organising committee, Philip Wanjohi who is also the area MCA, they are expecting to receive more than 5000 visitors both local and international.
Wanjohi says that security has been beefed up.
The school has already received Sh20 million pledge from President Uhuru Kenyatta after Brother Tabichi paid him a courtesy call at State House in Nairobi.
According to the school's principal, Daniel Mwariri, the gift by the President will be used in improving the infrastructure and also equip their congested science laboratory.
