The National Government has blacklisted 15 contractors who will no longer be able to carry out any government-funded works.
According to Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia, the firms have been banned over late delivery, hence roads delaying to complete.
Macharia also cited poor workmanship and delivery of low-quality infrastructure, which he said the government will no longer condone.
He said that consequently, the government has not been getting value for its money, considering the effort put in place to mobilize the funds.
"There is a big challenge in getting funds to implement the roads project and therefore we are not taking chances anymore,” the CS said on Saturday as quoted by the People Daily.
He spoke when he toured the proposed Mau Mau road, which will join the Rift Valley and Central Kenya provinces at a cost of Sh30 billion.
The CS added that some contractors have been abandoning the projects once paid upfront after tender awarding.
He announced that they will not be allowed to slow down the government's plan to construct 10,000 kilometres of roads.
“With the government’s objective to tarmac 10,000 kilometers of roads, these rogue contractors are a major setback in this mission. As long as we are in office(sic), they shall not get any tender," he said.
On the Mau Mau Road, which will be constructed on four lots, the CS said that it will be handled by four companies, with the job set to begin in January next year.
