Residents of Kisumu County and its environs are used to listening to secular radio stations, but things are set to change very soon.
A new radio station named Zion Gospel is set to hit the airwaves soon.
It started as an online station three months ago, but the proprietors; a group of over five youth have now acquired a frequency in order to reach the masses in Kisumu, Homa Bay, Kakamega, Siaya, parts of Migori, Kisii, parts of Nyamira, Vihiga and parts of Busia Counties.
According to Zion Gospel's Head of Radio Amon Naphtali, they expect to go live on air early next month.
“We have acquired a frequency, we will be broadcasting on 94.4FM. From next week, we will start running a playlist as we plan to go live on air early next month,” said Naphtali in an exclusive interview.
He said they saw a gap in radio ministry in Kisumu and neighbouring counties before coming up with the idea of Zion Gospel Radio.
“Our slogan is winning souls for Christ, and we are here for spiritual nourishment,” he added.
The station has lined up five shows a day, titled smooth morning, mid-day melodies, cross rhythm, full shangwe and jahazi with Kiswahili being the broadcast language.
It will become the 8th radio station based in Kisumu after Radio Sahara, Radio Namlolwe, Dala FM, SKY FM, Radio Lake Victoria, Peace FM and Urban Radio.
