Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has said his recent meeting with ODM leader Raila Odinga has no political dimensions.

The trade unionist on December 26, hosted the former Prime Minister at his rural home in Kakamega, resulting in attacks that he is auctioning the Luhya community to Raila.

However, Atwoli has come out to defend himself, saying Raila's visit never had anything to do with political issues, but is rather a family affair that happens every year.

"You know that he (Raila) is my relative and he visits me every Boxing Day when he brings around his family. We don’t discuss politics during such meetings," he told the Star.

This was in response to former area senator Boni Khalwale, who had accused Atwoli of purporting to be pushing for Luhya unity, but furthering presidential ambition of an outsider.

Atwoli, however, dismissed the claims, accusing the former senator of making uninformed allegations.

He noted that he is not a member of any of the leading parties, and is willing to host any of the leading politicians, including Deputy President William Ruto, whom he has been attacking lately.

"Khalwale is now playing off the touchline and that cannot be called football. I am not in Jubilee, ODM, ANC, Ford Kenya or Wiper. I am ready to host President Uhuru Kenyatta, Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and even William Ruto but that does not mean that if Ruto visits me, I support his presidential bid. He can come to look for market for chicken which he auctions,” he added.
