It has always been a known fact that people prefer white to blue collar jobs. The argument is that white collar is more prestigious and presentable, it evens goes father to say that it pays more.

Is there a story unfolding in your community? Let Hivisasa know

People basically assume that a blue-collar job person never stepped foot in class or was just a dropout, but they are doing what they love.

For example, being an auto mechanic, they fix cars, yet when one looks at them they just imagine they're not smart people because they are always covered in oil and going under cars to fix them.

Farmers also get stereotyped people assuming it's a punishment to plough and plant and harvest, yet those same exact products are what we consume daily. We have masons, constructors, drivers, nannies and a lot more.

People with such jobs, buy land, build houses, feed their families and even pay school fees for their children up to university level and are still involved in community building projects that they financially and actively support.

Education is important, but we've taken it out of context. People go to school up to university level and get a degree for arts, which in simple terms could mean a graffiti artist or a tailor.

We should not advocate for white collar jobs because we all know that there are people in white collar jobs who are buried in debt than they'd care to admit but would not leave their jobs just because they want to keep their status and don't want to be stereotyped.

Our generations need to learn that the title of your job should not be the main tool for others to decide on the amount of respect to give to you.
