Opposition leader Raila Odinga's youngest daughter, Winnie Odinga, has raised concerns over the escalating unemployment rate in the country, adding that 'all is not well in the economy'.

In a commentary at New Africa Magazine, Ms Odinga laments that many youths in the country lack formal employment, a move that could yet again put the government on the spot over job creation.

"We recently had a group of young people at CH. I was asked to speak and before I did, I asked them to lift their hands if they had formal employment. 3 out of 30 did. “Catastrophic Unemployment is a system of a diseased society.” For heavens sake STOP STEALING and GIVE US JOBS," she tweeted an excerpt from the article.

Asked why she cannot raise the issues with her father, whose working relationship with President Uhuru Kenyatta has substantially improved, she says: "Sometimes you have to shout outside for people to hear inside."

Statistics released by the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics last month shows the inflation rate has increased to 6.86 percent, the highest in as many months.

“Between March and April 2019, food and non-alcoholic drinks’ Index increased by 6.86 percent. This increase was mainly due to drought conditions which prevailed in the better part of April 2019 causing upsurge in the costs of some foodstuff,” KNBS said.
