In what seemed to be a rejoinder to a vernacular song from Mt. Kenya that dismisses Ruto’s partnership with Uhuru, the DP said he does not expect favour from the president.

“I have heard people talk of debt. President Uhuru Kenyatta does not owe me. I will face the ballot based on my track record as a minister, MP and Deputy President,” he said.

For the last few weeks, Jubilee party has been grappling with internal wrangles which have reportedly threatened to tear the party apart.

And Kitutu Masaba MP Shadrack Mose says Ruto’s decision to openly disown MOU with Uhuru could incite Central Kenya to front a different candidate.

“The fact is that they owe him. Rejecting that openly in the public could further diminish his chances. He should have stood with that MOU,” he said.

Nominated MCA George Mosiori added: “They owe him and the DP was factually wrong. It will be difficult now to ask for the favour and his statements are very unfortunate.”

Early this month, Kikuyu elders called for Ruto’s retirement in 2022 adding that he was jointly elected with the president.

Throughout their campaigns in 2013 and 2017, the duo insisted that Jubilee will rule until 2032 with Uhuru insisting that he will back Ruto’s bid.
