Youths and Gender minister Johnstone Obike faced hard times while addressing a gathering at Ekerenyo market, Tuesday during the mobilisation of Huduma Namba registration.
Trouble started when Obike, who had turned up following the invitation of county government by Commissioner Amos Maribe, defended his embattled colleague Bernard Osumo, who is facing impeachment motion at the assembly.
Angry residents heckled and booed him as Interior Principal Secretary Karanja Kibicho watched helplessly from one of the tents. He was among the invited guests at the function.
"Some of these allegations facing Osumo are unfounded. The assembly is being misused by some cartels," he said, as residents demanded he resumes his seat.
But a defiant Obike added: "The corruption allegations are baseless. We shall not back down as executive. We will continue serving the people of Nyamira. That's our sole duty."
Normalcy was restored after Mr Mariba chipped in. He asked residents to be tolerant in such events. The function saw some irritated residents walking away following Obike's statement.
Mr Osumo is facing abuse of office and gross misconduct charges at the assembly. However, he has since moved to Industrial ajf and Labour Relations Court which stopped the ongoing probe against him.
MCAs have however vowed to proceed with the motion. He's accused of embezzling Sh24 million that was meant for payment of six officers who had been seconded by TSC to the county government.
