Former presidential candidate and human rights crusader Nazlin Umar has joined Muslim leaders calling for the review of the Supreme Court's ruling on hijabs.
Speaking at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, Umar blasted the Chief Justice (CJ) David Maraga led court accusing it of discrimination.
Umar said that the court failed to protect religious practice of the Muslim girls.
She noted that hijab is a religious belief for Muslim women.
"The Chief Justice should know that Muslims are also Kenyans protected by the constitution," she said.
The human rights' activist claimed that some schools are allegedly asking Muslim girls to abandon wearing hijabs.
Umar asked Muslim parents to ensure their daughters put on hijabs as their faith prescribes.
Several Muslim leaders, politicians and scholars are against the ruling on hijabs.
Two weeks ago, Garissa Township Aden Duale asked Muslim girls to ignore the ruling.
Duale asked the CJ Maraga-led court to respect Islam religion.
The Supreme Court gave schools the discretion to make their own rules on dress code.
The ruling means that school administrators will decide on whether to allow Muslim students to wear hijabs or not.
