Area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Chomba is now attributing the trend to failure by area assistant chief to stop the illegal alcohol business.

Speaking in Eldoret town on Thursday, Chomba said at least 4 to 5 people die monthly in the ward due to the consumption of the illicit liquor.

“The assistant chief has been colluding with the illegal alcohol traders and other criminal elements in the ward, and this explains her laxity in getting rid of the illegal alcohol business,” said the MCA.

“Residents who lodge complainants over the illegal trade and volunteer information to authorities normally receive threats from the criminals who have been collaborating with the assistant chief,” he added.

The Ward Representative now wants the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner Abdi Hassan and Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi to transfer the chief elsewhere.

The said assistant chief could however not be reached to respond to the allegations by the area MCA.

The ward that is located within Eldoret town has several informal settlements that expose it to free flow of the illegal alcohol.
