Former Uasin Gishu gubernatorial aspirant Solomon Kiptarbei Maritim has been silent on the county's succession politics, even as the race to succeed Governor Jackson Mandago in 2022 hots up.
Maritim, 32, lost to Governor Mandago in the Jubilee party primaries, in which he came in a distant third after businessman Zedekiah Bundotich who was in the second position.
The youthful politician who had the courage to face heavyweight politicians in his quest to occupy the county's top seat used a bicycle to traverse the county during his 2017 campaigns.
“It’s time to elect ordinary people who understand the plight of the people,” said Maritim when asked whether he has what it takes to unseat Mandago and beat other moneyed politicians who had declared interest in the race.
Though he faced opposition from people who were sceptical of his candidacy, Maritim remained firm, affirming to his supporters that despite facing financial challenges, he has the ability to clinch the seat.
Maritim has however steered clear of the 2022 succession debate and is yet to announce which political office he will seek in the upcoming polls.
Pundits, however, opine that the former Nandi County government accountant will throw his hat into the ring with the intention to succeed Governor Madago after his tenure constitutionally comes to an end.
