Kitutu Chache South lawmaker Richard Onyonka has insisted that the opposition remains independent and strong despite former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's latest moves.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader early last year reached a truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta, which has seen him drift closer to the President lately.
But Onyonka has insisted that he remains in the opposition and should not be thought to have joined the government, adding that he is not even interested in being part if it.
Speaking on NTV's Am Live Monday, he stated said that similarly, Raila has not toppled Deputy President William Ruto to take his post and is not interested in holding that position at all.
"We are not in the government, the handshake doesn’t mean that Raila is the DP and he doesn’t want to be," said the third term MP who is in office on the Ford Kenya party ticket.
This comes at a time when the DP's allies have been accusing Raila of using his closeness with Uhuru to export confusion into Jubilee, allegedly in a bid to break it ahead of the 2022 elections.
Onyonka also challenged the Jubilee government to stick to serving Kenyans and stop engaging in useless activities which are of no benefit to the citizens.
"We are telling Jubilee to stop making noise and work," added the former ODM parliamentarian, also formerly a Ruto ally before he trooped back to Raila's camp.
His remarks come amid ongoing fights within the ruling party, pitting the rival Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga factions.
