It goes without saying that Opposition Leader Raila Odinga enjoys fanatical support in all corners of Kisumu county, and the entire Nyanza region.

However, going by recent happenings it seems that the ODM leader is losing grip in the county, which is one of his political strongholds.

To start with, most Kisumu residents are yet to endorse and fully embrace the handshake between the opposition leader and President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The two leaders met on March 09, 2018 and agreed to bury the hatchet after divisive elections last year.

A section of Kisumu residents died while others got injuries during protests against President Kenyatta’s win.

Since the two leaders came together, families of the victims are yet to be compensated, and there’s no talk of being compensated.

This has created a believe among residents that the handshake was about Raila’s own interests and not of his supporters.

On Monday, the NASA leader was in Kisumu for the official launch of the Unaitas Sacco branch in the Lakeside City.

He was tasked by a section of Kisumu residents to explain why he rallied his troops in parliament to support the 8% value added tax (VAT) on petrol, diesel and paraffin.

Residents did not buy his explanation of helping the government raise money to fill deficits in the budget. Most of them indicated that instead of fighting for them, Raila was making life difficult.

It is now upon the former Prime Minister to strengthen his grip on the county, before it slips out of his hands.
