Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has revealed plans to table a bill in parliament that will compel those who impregnate young girls to take responsibility.
The MP says the bill comes as a result of many cases of pregnancies that have recently been reported among school-going children not only in his constituency but also across the country.
“It's so demoralizing when you hear that girls are pregnant at a very tender age. These children do not get pregnant on their own, we are not going to call them single mothers again,” said Kositany in Eldoret town, Tuesday.
“We will make a legislation in parliament where when a girl gives birth, she must say who the father is so that he is compelled to take the responsibility of taking care of the child,” he added.
The first-time legislator however blamed parents over increased teenage pregnancies saying they had failed in taking care of their children.
He further called on stern actions to be taken against individuals that impregnate school-going children while also expressing the need for young girls to be protected from men out to ruin their future.
