A 40-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Kenze village, Mwala in Machakos County.
The body of Justus Mumo Maingi was found by passersby dangling from a tree on Thursday afternoon.
Ikalaasa location chief Esther Mule confirmed the incident.
She said that the man hails from Kyaani, Mbooni sub county in Makueni County. She observed that the reason as to why the man took his life is still a mystery.
"The man is not from around but comes from Makueni according to his identification. His body was discovered by members of the public who notified me.We haven't figured out why he took his life," said Mule.
The deceased used his belt to hang himself. The body was collected and moved to Machakos Level Five Hospital mortuary for preservation.
Kenneth Kaloki Mung'ala, a local leader from Mwala decried that cases of suicide have gone up. He urged residents undergoing depression to find people to talk to.
He reiterated that suicide is not the answer as it is a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
"Depression is real and a lot of people are taking their lives so we should talk to relatives, friends religious leaders before it takes a toll on our lives," he said.
