A 27-year-old man is currently fighting for his life in hospital after he was stabbed by a woman he attempted to rape.
The incident happened on Friday in Nyangoso market, Kisii County.
It is alleged that Joseph Nyabwari was leaving a local bar at 8 pm when he bumped into the woman, Angeline Mong'ina who was on her way home.
An inebriated Nyabwari made sexual advances at her before grabbing her hand and pushing her to a nearby thicket.
"Nyabwari was drunk when he found Mong'ina, a vegetable seller at the market returning home. He grabbed her hands and dragged her into a nearby bush," said a boda boda rider Innocent Onchari.
Onchari said he heard the woman screaming for help from the local bush and rushed to the scene only to find the man bleeding following the stabbing.
"Mong'ina used a knife she uses to cut vegetable at the market to stab the man on his right shoulder in self-defence," he stated.
Kisii Assistant Police Commander Caleb Matoke said the man was rushed to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment.
"The man is being treated and we thank God he is responding well to medication. He will be charged once he is discharged from the hospital," he noted.
Matoke said the woman is married.
She has since recorded a statement with police over the incident.
