The father to Deputy President William Ruto’s Personal Assistant Farouk Kibet will be laid to rest today.
His body was chauffeured from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret to his village in Chepaita, Turbo constituency on Thursday.
The burial of Mzee Paul Teigut is underway and several Kalenjin rituals are likely to be performed if the decision makers in the family are not devoted Christians.
The goitab maa (a cooking supporting stone) is likely to be removed for some time.
The fireplace stone is usually removed for a day. However, this might not be the case if Mzee Teigut had abandoned traditional cooking methods and embraced LPG and electricity among other methods.
Another ritual that is likely to be honoured is the kimonjok (hut tip wooden pointer) is cut.
This tradition is a communication to the society that the head of the family has departed to the afterlife world.
In case Teigut has preserved his traditional house beside the modern structures, this will be witnessed. However, if all structures are modern, the ritual will continue diminishing.
Meanwhile, the Kalenjin community has several other death rituals that are sensitive to gender, age and marital status.
