Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula now says that the party must be part of the government after the approaching 2022 general election.
Addressing the press in Mtwapa, Kilifi county on Monday, the Bungoma Senator who has since expressed interest in the presidency in the race vowed to lead the party to the winning side in the much-anticipated contest.
He expressed Ford-Kenya's willingness to join hands with other selected formations with a similar ideology, in line with the dream.
"We are keen on being in the next government and will either form the government with others or let them form the administration with us. As Ford-Kenya, we want to be the central core of the next administration," he said.
The lawmaker, however, ruled out any possibilities of working with Deputy President William Ruto who is also expected to participate in the race, again ruling out any possibilities of backing the DP who is likely to vie on the ruling Jubilee Party ticket.
"How can we join his camp when we already have ours?" he wondered.
The new declaration follows initial plans to merge Ford-Kenya and the Musalia Mudavadi led Amani National Congress (ANC) party.
The merger, however, now seems hanging in the air, with its progress yet to be released to the public and could have failed since both leaders are eyeing the top seat.
