A Kenyan teacher on Wednesday scooped an international award as the best teacher in Africa in this year's inaugural Africa union continental teacher prize held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Mr Eric Ademba a Mathematics and Chemistry teacher at Asumbi girls high school beat other 50 teachers who had been nominated for the award.

On October 5th the African Union requested it's member states to nominate two outstanding teachers male and female for the prize.

Apparently he won because his school was ranked among the top 10 in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in the last two years.

Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia congratulated the teacher stating that Kenya was the home of world best teachers.

A few months ago another Kenyan teacher Peter Tabichi of Keriko Secondary school in Nakuru won the award of the best teacher globally.

"Coming months just after Peter Tabichi emerged fge best global teacher, we are proud of the caliber of staff that are attending to our children in Kenya," said Macharia.

Tabichi is the first African to win the prize comprising of Sh100 million.

Tabichi was reported as the teacher who donated 80% of his salary to help widows and orphans.
