As soon as the jet carrying him was sighted in the skies, a red carpet was quickly rolled out for him.

The Kenyan Head of State was welcomed on Thursday to Barbados by Barbadian Governor General Dame Sandra Mason with a hug after landing at the Grantley Adams International Airport.

In a video shared online, President Uhuru Kenyatta is seen greeting top military officials after which he is led to stand between two canons.

The Kenyan national anthem is then played by the Barbados military band wearing green and yellow uniforms as a 21-gun salute is mounted in his honour.

After the national anthem, Uhuru is requested to inspect a guard of honour mounted by a detachment of the Barbados Defence Forces.

He agrees to inspect the guard of honour.

Uhuru and his delegation were then invited to a government reception at Government House.

"First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma and other members of the President’s delegation attended the reception held at the Government House in the Barbadian capital, Bridgetown," State House Kenya wrote on Facebook.

The president's visit will last for three days.
