In his strategy, Uhuru focused on Coast, Western and Gusii region, where he made numerous trips to try and toast the ground in his favor.

Besides working with politicians, Uhuru also preferred technocrats, who he believed that they would give credible feedback during brainstorm.

Kisii and Nyamira, with close to 800,000 votes at stake, Uhuru deployed a number of technocrats who worked closely with his sister, Kristina Pratt.

Last week, one of the campaign strategist Eng Peter Magara, died at Magharibi Hotel. He was among members of Gusii professionals, which brings together people from various disciplines in the region.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i, was one of the coordinators of the team. Although he was already a minister, most politicians reported directly to him.

Early this year, Uhuru elevated him to chairman of National Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee, which coordinated government projects.

Ms Susan Mochache, also a career civil servant, was also among few Principal Secretaries who survived reorganisation of the government by the president.

But one of the major winners in the team was Ken Ogeto. The celebrated lawyer, is credited for organising several Jubilee campaigns. Last year, he was appointed Solicitor General.

And on Monday, Uhuru completed his reward to most loyal technocrats by nominating Otachi Bw'Omanwa as chairman National Lands Commission.

Mr Otachi, besides being a close ally of the President, he also closely worked with Dr Fred Matiang'i to deliver sizeable votes for Jubilee from the region.

Although he did not beat Mr Odinga in the disputed poll, Uhuru's team managed to pull a shock by producing several elected leaders on the party, which strengthened Jubilee's grip in Parliament.
