Mr Mbijiwe made the remarks on Thursday during an interview on the Kenya Television Network (KTN) as he sought to dispel the perception that the hotel is a place where sordid plots are hatched.

He described the hotel as an honourable and well-secured facility that has won the hearts of people in government and the political establishment.

"In fact, the final edict that created the Jubilee Party was signed in that basement. So it's not a dingy, dark place where murder plots are being laid. No no no! It's actually a good hotel and by the way next to it is the National Intelligence Service (NIS) headquarters. People should imagine it is a funny place where criminals from Mount Kenya can come and meet and try to kill somebody. Truly it's a highly secured hotel and it is an honourable place for people to meet and that Jubilee meetings were being held there shows the sanctity of the place or how people in government or in the system really treat the facility," said Mr Mbijiwe.

La Mada Hotel has been trending following claims that cabinet secretaries from Mount Kenya region met at its basement to flesh out an assassination plot against the deputy president.
