Police in Migori have uprooted an entire acre of bhang in the county.

The operation happened on Thursday dawn leading to the law enforcers destroying the product worth 15 million shillings in Riangora Village, Suna West sub-county.

The officers who were working on the tip-off as well confiscated 20 sacks of ready bhang that had been harvested awaiting delivery.

Confirming the incident, Migori County Administration Police Commander Julius Amariko said that some of the farm employees took off when the police arrived.

He added that citizens of goodwill had alerted police on patrol of the illegal operation at the farm, resulting to the raid.

"Police on patrol received a tip from the public about a consignment of bhang hidden in a home," he is quoted by the Standard.

On his side, Suna West Deputy County Commissioner Mballa Mutua warned residents against bhang production, warning of stern punitive measures as per the law.

"We shall make sure all the culprits are apprehended and all the bhang uprooted,’’ he is quoted.

The farm owners are said to be the main suppliers in the region bordering Tanzania which is considered the main transit route for bhang set for Nairobi and other regions.A portion of the product is suspected to be crossing over from Tanzania.
