For the past one year, DP Ruto has appeared to walk on a tight rope, often seen to be in conflict with Uhuru's official stand on various matters, a move that hasn't gone well with some State House operatives.

On Wednesday, Ruto dispelled claims that Uhuru is closely working with Raila Odinga to block his 2022 presidential bid, adding that the president is not his competitor.

"The president is not my competitor. Don't drag him to so-called succession politics. I know who my competitors are. When I was working with them, I was clean. Today, they say I am the priest of corruption,"  Ruto said.

He added: "I talk with the president almost every day on matters surrounding our government. We consult on a daily basis. I was shocked that even when he visited for lunch in my office, it was news headlines for you."

On the war against corruption, Ruto dismissed Raila Odinga's input, insisting that one of Jubilee government's agenda was to fight corruption. He said the government has equipped all agencies.

Asked whether it was a must that he succeeds President Kenyatta, Ruto said 'he will cross the bridge when he reaches there' adding that he will first have to fight for a ticket in Jubilee Party.
