Fresh from meeting Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) board Members led by Chairman Francis Muthaura on Tuesday, the governor on Wednesday morning hosted a delegation from the Kenya Water Institute (KEWI).

The delegation was led by former Machakos County gubernatorial candidate, now Chairperson of the Governing Council Kenya Institute of Water Wavinya Ndeti.

A short statement released by the governor’s press unit after the meeting said that KEWI intends to put up a fully fledged institute in Miwani at the cost of Sh2 billion.

“Due to increased demand for water professionals, the institute intends to put up a Ksh. 2 billion institute in Miwani to serve the whole of the East African Region and emerging economies of South Sudan and the Great Lake Region,” said the statement.

Currently, KEWI has a campus in Kisumu’s Kibos area, that was established on September 6, 2012.

The new institute is expected to be put up on a  20 acre piece of land in Miwani owned by KEWI.

It is expected that the new project will contain an international research centre where research activities can be conducted by stakeholders in the water sector.
