He was first appointed into government in 2013 as Industrialisation and Enterprise Cabinet Secretary (CS) but later handed the EAC docket.

Adan is among CSs of Somali organ in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s cabinet.

Here is what you didn’t know about CS Adan.

He was born to ethnic Somali parents from the Garre clan in Elwak, Mandera County.

Adan attended schooled at Mandera primary school and later Mandera secondary school.

After his secondary education, he enrolled for a Bachelor’s degree in Business at the University of Nairobi (UoN) and graduated in 1989 with a First Class Honours.

He then proceeded to study a Master’s Degree in Business at the Harvard University and graduated in 1998.

Adan also has a degree in Chartered Accounts from the University of Wales.

Prior to being appointed CS in 2013, Adan was the Chief Administrative Officer for Barclays Bank, Africa.

Adan received a presidential recognition ‘Elder of Burning Spear (EBS)’ award for his leading and distinguished service in private and public sector.

He is a staunch Muslim.

Adan is married and has children.
