However, there are some who are not very keen on returning back to Luo Nyanza, some having spend tens of years in these urban centers, ending up forgetting the faces of their relatives back in the village.

Some of these are frustrated people who left home angry or pained as a result of varying reasons. The main culprit in this case is usually the case of land.

With every family known to have a hard-headed member who hears nothing from anyone, they at times send away relatives by selling off land secretly and when it finally comes to light, people end up angry.

Apart from the anger, at times they end up touching on the land that was to be used by the person in question to establish their homes, and since the land is no longer there, they have no reason going back, finding home in rentals in the cities.

The other reason is over-obsession with the privileges that come with living in town, most people fancy things like piped water, sewerage system, tarmacs, and above all, being far from tillable land.

They cannot imagine waking up early in the morning to go to the farms and then to the dam or river to fetch water before dealing with muddy and bushy roads.

Also the cause is wealth and riches which drives people to establish themselves in urban towns and decide they no longer need to go back home.

According to the Luo culture, one is free to live anywhere as long as it is graced by elders and the right procedure undertaken, once some people acquire land and build it in town, they disown their villages.

Finally, some are victims of unfortunate deaths which at times wipe out an entire family, leaving only one or two members. When a homestead becomes wiped out, it is called 'gunda' in Luo culture.

People who come from such families find it hard going back home because of the loneliness, the unbearable memories of their departed loved ones and the fear of living alone in a homestead full of graves.
