Kalenjin elders on Friday claimed Mr Ngunjiri is a self–seeking politician and warned him to stop claiming that he speaks for the Kikuyu community living in the Rift Valley.

According to Gilbert Kabage, the elder of the Rift Valley region, Mr Ngunjiri does not speak for thousands of residents in the region.

“Mr Ngunjiri and the leaders, who accompanied him, do not speak for us. The future of DP Ruto’s house will be influenced by people he brings inside, “said Mr Kabage.

Before Christmas, Ngunjiri led hundreds of Rift Valley Kikuyu community members to Dr Ruto's Sugoi home where there were discussions on the DP's 2022 presidential bid.

“We, as Kikuyu leaders in the Rift Valley, better understand the problems we’ve undergone every election year and we can make our own decisions without pressure from any quarters. Our people should never turn against each other again,” said Mr Ngunjiri, the community’s de facto chairman in the Rift Valley.

Mr Ngunjiri has been very vocal over Ruto's 2022 bid, often accusing unnamed State House bureaucrats of planning to shortchange Ruto.
