When you go to Rome, do what the Romans do; so goes a famous saying.
This is exactly what Murang’a County Woman Representative Sabina Wanjiru Chege did when she toured Kisumu County on Friday alongside other women leaders under the Embrace Kenya women movement.
When she took to the stage at the Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Kisumu, Chege decided to capture the residents’ attention by throwing up some popular Luo vocabulary.
“Osaore uru,” she started. This translates to how are you? This was followed by “Opak Ruoth,” which translates to Praise God.
The Woman Representative thanked the people of Kisumu for maintaining peace and order since the March 09, 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta, and ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“We thank the people of Kisumu for maintaining peace. No more violence. Kenya is bigger than anyone of us,” she said.
Earlier, the leaders led by Kisumu County Woman Representative Rosa Buyu visited Nyalenda estate where they met the parents of the late Baby Samantha Pendo who died after allegedly being hit by a police baton in 2017.
Police allegedly invaded Baby Pendo’s parents’ house while quelling violence that erupted, shortly after President Kenyatta was declared winner of the August 2017 presidential elections.
Pendo died while six-months-old. Her parents now have a seven-month-old baby boy.
