Kenyan whiz kid Kenneth Muguna has been named as Gor Mahia’s new captain for the 2019/20 season by new head coach Steven Polack.
Joash Onyango will serve as Muguna’s assistant, with the duo both having played for Western Stima. Onyango was Muguna’s captain at stima and the pair will be happy to work together.
The armband had been up for grabs following the departure of Harun Shakava to Nkana FC in Zambia after five years with the club and will be taken up by the 23-year-old midfielder who shot to prominence in 2017.
The playmaker might be a surprise selection for many Gor Mahia supporters because of his age but if you ever needed a player who can step up for the team, this guy is the man.
Perhaps not the most vocal on the pitch compared to his teammates. But, the 2017 KPL most valuable player attitude is what sets him apart from the rest.
Muguna has already shown he’s capable of carrying the team, breaking the deadlock against AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji derby in February. And Perhaps getting the captains armbands means the team trust in him to kick start Kogalo’s new era.
He’s got big shoes to fill, but, at 23, he can only develop and get better.
