Deputy President William Ruto's frequent trips to the expansive Western Kenya region will not yield fruits in 2022, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi has said.
In an interview with the Standard on Thursday, the former Vice President said MPs from Western Kenya are 'only interested in the DP's wallet', adding that the trips do not worry him.
“I am not worried about the many visits other people make in Western region. Some leaders crossing over does not necessarily translate into votes. In fact, he should be worried because they only invite him for fundraisers. Those people are only interested in his wallet,” said Mudavadi.
Mr Mudavadi also questioned the source of Ruto's huge donations, arguing that the money was suspicious. He asked people to question the source of donations.
“People must question why an individual will donate money more than even Safaricom that makes billions of shillings in profits. You cannot donate money more than what your companies are able to make,” Mudavadi said.
Further, he said IEBC should be reformed ahead of 2022 polls, insisting that the 2017 polls were bungled by the electoral body.
“I still believe our victory was stolen in 2017 and we must correct and deal with IEBC. The electoral commission is captured by the State. We must start by the independence of commission if elections are to be free and fair,” he said.
Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka and former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale have been leading pro-Ruto campaigns in Western Kenya. He has made over 20 trips since 2017.
