Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has warned against calls suggesting that the Senate should be scrapped.
Mutula says the Senate plays a key role in devolved governance and any thoughts to scrap it are ill.
He noted that those pushing or recommending for the Senate to be abolished are enemies of devolution.
Speaking in Makueni town on Saturday, the vocal Senator observed that devolution cannot work properly without the Senate.
“The Senate is the bedrock of devolution and any thoughts of abolishing it will affect service delivery in counties," Mutula told journalists.
He said that Senate is playing a crucial role in the dispensation of devolved services to counties and insisted that he will fight any attempts to abolish the Senate through a referendum.
"The referendum should not be about scrapping the Senat because it will fail," he added.
Soy Member of Parliament Caleb Kositany has proposed that the Senate be abolished alongside nominated positions of Members of Parliament and Members of County Assembly in a bid to cut on the country's wage bill.
