Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho on Monday visited Kongowea Market following the fire incident.

The second term governor pledged to support the affected traders to restore their original status before the fire broke out. He ordered the Tourist Department in his office to ensure that the stalls of all affected businesspersons are erected with immediate effect after the incident.

"Today afternoon I visited the Kongowea market to assess the damage caused by yesternight inferno. I have directed the Department of @TourismMombasa to support the affected traders in the reconstruction of their stalls and to further assist them to get back to their businesses," he tweeted.

 He also said that the county government of Mombasa has unveiled its plans to improve the infrastructure of the market to ensure safety as well as efficiency at the end of the day. 

He further asked the residents of the area to back his government as he seeks to ensure better service delivery  in the long run.

"We will embark on the improvement of the infrastructure around the market to improve market efficiency & safety. I further donated KES 1M from Hassan Joho Foundation to the over 65 affected small & medium sized entrepreneurs to assist in the recovery process of their businesses," he said.
