The most dreaded question in a relationship is when one is put to task to explain one’s relationship with a person of the opposite gender. Often times, the answer just friends does not hold water, and may signify the beginning of cracks in a relationship.
In most cases, becoming friends with a person of the opposite sex is inevitable as you interact with each other in the work place. However, boundaries may be crossed, which may lead to that friendship being toxic to your relationship.
These are some of those instances:
1. When you hide from your partner what you are up to with your friend
It is normal for friends to hang out with each other. Being friends with a person from the opposite sex is not exempted from the rule. It however becomes toxic when you begin hiding your activities with that opposite sex friend from your partner. It is a sing that you two may up to something, and when your partner becomes suspicious, the relationship may be headed down the drain.
2. When you prioritize your friendship over your partner
Every partner expects to be treated as a first priority by his or her lover. When you begin spending more time with your opposite sex friend be sure that you are about to destroy your relationship.
3. When your partner becomes jealous of your friendship
Jealousy is the inevitable result when you begin prioritizing your friend over your partner. You may be spending too much time with them, calling them late in the night, and probably being overly concerned with your friend. This may put your relationship in jeopardy.
4. When your friendship makes your partner insecure
Opposite sex friendships make your partner insecure. Even though they may trust that you are responsible, doubts may creep in especially when you two are overly close to each other.
5. When you insist that your partner and your friend become friends
It will look like a spite in the face when you suggest that your partner and your friend become friends. Your partner is at liberty to choose his or her friends. When you insist they become friends, it may not augur well with your partner, and may signal that the friendship is becoming toxic.
