Deputy President William Ruto has volunteered to pay Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen's debt owed to Kalenjin comedy group Propesa.
Speaking with members of the group on Tuesday at his official Karen residence, he said he would help the Senator clear the debt if he was not in a position to do so.
"Kama ameshindwa kulipa, nitamlipia (If he's not in a position to pay, I will pay for him), " the deputy president said.
According to Propesa, Senator Murkomen made a bet with them on the outcome of a match pitting Gor Mahia and English Premeir League side Everton FC.
They reached a gentleman's agreement in which, the side supporting a team that lost would have to pay the side that won.
As things turned out, the outcome of the match went against the Senate Majority Leader.
The comedy group was in the winning side which meant that the senator owed them.
Propesa claimed that they had made endless efforts to get Murkomen to pay their debt to no avail, as the senator has been playing games with them.
The revelation was made during a meeting that the DP had with local online content creators, in which he promised to support them in their exploits.
Senator Murkomen is a strong ally of the deputy president.
