MPs Opiyo Wandayi (Ugunja) and Gem's Elisha Odhiambo have told Uhuru to invite Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to be part of the delegation that will visit the lakeside zone.

Odhiambo on Sunday said inviting Museveni will give people from the region an opportunity to put the Ugandan president to task to explain why Ugandan policemen mistreat Kenyan fishermen in the disputed Migingo Island.

The lawmakers also said they would want Uhuru and Museveni to agree publicly on how to manage the island that has been at the centre of strained diplomatic relations between Kenya and Uganda.

"We don't understand why Museveni was not invited," Odhiambo, said in Kisumu as quoted by People Daily.

"We want him to come because we want the issue of Migingo resolved ones and for all."

Wandayi who was speaking in Ugunja when he presided over a youth fundraiser said continued squabbles between Kenya and Uganda over the ownership of Migingo has continued to frustrate cross-border trade between Kenya and Uganda.

The MPs made the call less than one month after Ugandan soldiers were accused of arresting and detaining three Kenyan Administration Police officers in Migingo.
