Baringo Senator Gideon Moi has opened up about moments that marked his 2018.
In an interview with the Standard, Moi also shared about some of his demoralizing moments of 2018.
According to the Baringo Senator, failure by the National and Cereals Board to pay farmers was a low moment for him.
“My lowest moment in 2018 was the raw deal our farmers got at the expense of the selfishness of a few,” said Gideon.
During the undated interview, Moi said that he was shocked by the treatment given to farmers and it was his hope that the investigative agencies will step up and bring the culprits to book.
“It was absolutely appalling and it is our hope that with the new Sheriffs in town (DCI Kinoti and DPP Noordin) we are going to the bottom of this in 2019,” he said.
NCPB has been marred with scandals after reports emerged that senior managers were selectively paying farmers who were politically connected.
President Uhuru Kenyatta stepped in and stated that he will be forced to sack some officials if farmers are not paid on time.
At the same time, a section of politicians has been calling on farmers to stop depending on maize and diversify their production.
