Confirming the reception in a press conference on Tuesday, Deputy Governor Mathews Owilli said that the funds are meant for the modernization of Kisumu City.

Among projects to be undertaken using the funds, he told the media at Manyatta, is the unblocking of drainage systems.

Also, a portion will be used in tarmacking of roads within residential zones in the lakeside city.

"Part of the funds will go towards tarmacking roads and unblocking drainage within the estates,” he was quoted by the Citizen Digital.

As part of the Kenyan Urban Support Program, a section of the money will also be used to enhance traffic response systems, and upgrading of fire stations.

He said that similar projects initiated by the previous regime under former Governor Jack Ranguma have since been completed by the incumbent leadership under Governor Anyang' Nyong'o.

These include a school which is complete and ready for occupation.

"School projects have also been completed and are ready for occupation by pupils next year,” he said.
