Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai has stepped up the fight against counterfeit products and goods.
Speaking at his Jogoo House office on Wednesday when he met officials from Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI), Mutyambai said that the issue of counterfeit goods has been a thorn the flesh of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration.
He noted that the government has failed to achieve its objectives in some areas because of the incessant sale of counterfeit goods.
Mutyambai also said that he is ready to corporate with KNCCI to ensure that the issue of sale of goods that do not meet the required standards is a thing of the past.
On his part, KNCCI President Richard Ngatia said that it will take the collaboration of different stakeholders to end the vice.
“We have discussed a wide range of issues among them the war against counterfeit products, timely and efficient information sharing, community policing and corporate social responsibility projects between the business community and the National Police Service,” he said as quoted by Capital FM.
Ngatia assured Mutyambai of his support as President Kenyatta seeks to leave behind a legacy before he completes his second and final term in office.
The two pledged to ensure the construction of new police stations countrywide to curb cases of sale of counterfeit products.
