A robbery attempt at a petrol station in Naivasha was on Monday thwarted by area police officers.
The incident occurred at a petrol station located near Karagita Estate along Moi South Lake Road, which the gang of more than 10 suspected robbers intended to steal from.
The gang is said to have attacked Shell Petrol Station on Monday morning and tied up the four guards manning the facility, before proceeding to the room where the money was being kept.
However, police from Karagita Police Station were notified of the ongoing attempt by one of the guards who managed to free himself and proceeded to foil the attempt.
“The officers rushed to the scene but the thugs managed to escape after failing to open the room where the cash had been kept,” said Fred Waithaka, a witness, reports the Standard.
He said that the thugs escaped from the scene, leaving the guards with minor injuries, an incident that was confirmed by area OCPD Samuel Waweru.
The police boss said that a manhunt has been launched for the thugs, and also confirmed an earlier incident where seven suspected drug dealers were arrested in Karagita.
“We are following some leads over the attempted robbery while the seven suspects nabbed with the bhang will be arraigned in court facing various charges,” he said.
The arrests followed an operation that saw the officers seize 1000 stones of bhang.
