Kandara MP Alice Wahome has noted that the famous March 9, 2018 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga has not met the intended expectations.
The MP argued that the truce was aimed at ensuring real and sincere discussions on unity in the country, which has not happened.
Wahome was speaking on Thursday during an interview on Citizen TV.
The MP noted that she expects the Head of State to outline gains made by the handshake as well as give the way forward on the matter.
She opined that Kenyans should forget about the handshake because it had achieved little.
The vocal legislator further stated that the majority of Jubilee leaders do not have faith in the handshake due to the lack of tangible results emanating from the same.
"We expect that the president will take stock of how the handshake has benefitted the country. In fact, we should now forget about the handshake. I can tell you many of us in Jubilee do not believe in the handshake because it is not working. You know the handshake was supposed to be followed by engagements and unity," said Wahome.
The lawmaker argued that politicians need to look for other workable strategies to achieve important development and unity goals as a country, adding that the same will be featured in the president's speech.
President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to make a State of the Nation address at Parliament building this afternoon.
